Our fundamental belief is that research, education, and social change go hand in hand. GWSS provides a rich intellectual community where faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students bring their individual interests and goals to shared intellectual endeavors. Students have the opportunity to focus on significant issues facing the world today through courses and research in areas such as health and science, art and literature, laws and policies, education and social movements.

Our urban location gives our students access to a vast and diverse landscape where they can pursue public engaged research, digital humanities for social justice, community collaborations and partnerships, as well as internship and career opportunities across a wide spectrum of organizations and institutions. The vibrant and culturally diverse Twin Cities area offers a multitude of leadership paths and life choices for new graduates in health, policy, social justice and non-profit work, entrepreneurship, education, and graduate careers.
