Alum Eric Grumdahl is MN's New Asst. Commissioner of the Behavioral Health, Housing, Deaf & Hard of Hearing Admin

Eric Grumdahl

Eric Grumdahl, who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1994 with a double major in Philosophy and Women’s Studies, has joined the Minnesota Department of Human Services as Assistant Commissioner of the Behavioral Health, Housing, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Administration.

In his role as assistant commissioner, Grumdahl oversees programs and policies that serve people who lack stable housing, have mental health or substance use disorder diagnoses, and those who are deaf, deaf/blind or hard of hearing.

In his previous state roles, Grumdahl established the Homeless Veteran Registry to drive Minnesota’s progress toward ending veteran homelessness and established Homework Starts with Home, an interagency initiative focused on ending homelessness for students and their families. He has served on several federal leadership teams on veteran and youth homelessness.
