Connect with CLA Students
Are you a CLA alum?
Consider Joining the CLA Alumni Society!
We plan and host events for networking,
professional development, and outreach to
current CLA students, and even for having fun!
We need you! Employers, alumni, and friends of the University of Minnesota are important contacts for students in the College of Liberal Arts. We'd be happy to have you be a guest speaker in a career class, volunteer at one of our events, or more. We have lots of ideas, but we'd love to hear yours!
Ways to Connect
Recruit on Campus
Recent college graduates can bring unique competencies and skills to your organization, and we invite you to learn more about recruiting students from the College of Liberal Arts. We can also advise you on the benefits of recruiting and hiring CLA international students. CLA Career Services holds on-campus recruiting events for CLA students during fall and spring semesters.
Professional Networking Database
Join the University of Minnesota's professional networking database in GoldPASS to network with and be a resource for University of Minnesota students and alumni who are looking for information on careers and other post-graduation pursuits. Volunteer to help students by providing informational interview, setting up job shadowing, or other activities. Register on GoldPASS by clicking the "Mentors login."
Classroom and Event Speakers
Be a presenter, speaker, or a panelist in one of our career-development courses or at an event. Discuss your career, provide advice on resumes and job searching, talk about how your liberal arts degree has influenced your career, or share your advice about how to make the best of college and other experiences.
Practice Interview Days
Volunteer to facilitate 45-minute practice interviews in our career office. Help students prepare for behavioral-based interview questions, then provide them with tips about interviewing effectively and dressing appropriately.
Employer Site Visits
Invite a group of CLA students to your organization for a tour and a brief presentation. It's a great way to connect with students and provide them with information about your organization, and to discuss the value of a liberal arts degree and the types of careers they might be qualified for. Check out more information on how to host an Employer Site Visit
Volunteer to spend a couple of hours at the CLA Career Services office offering resume feedback and tips to CLA students.
Maroon & Gold Network
Join this virtual network to offer help to U of M students and fellow alumni with career-related connections and or find advice for yourself. Provide your expertise or ask for an informational interview, seek help with a resume, or identify alumni in various locations, worldwide.
Be on a list of contacts willing to do an informational interview with students who are exploring career options. Students would ask you questions about your career to determine if that line of work is a good fit for them. Informational interviews can be done in person, by email, or by phone.
Sponsor a Career Event or Resource
Increase your organization's branding with CLA students by sponsoring an event or resource for CLA students. Financial gifts of all sizes will benefit CLA students and increase your organization's name recognition with them.
