Spanning the humanities and social sciences, my research and teaching engage with the fields of critical race and whiteness studies, settler colonial studies, cultural geography, legal geography, and media studies. My dissertation research, “This Land is Our Land: Viral Constitutionalism in the American West,” bridges online and offline media, networks, and events to investigate how activists engage the Constitution as a text, legal document, and potent symbol in a contest over the hegemony of white supremacy in the U.S.
My courses have covered geographic theory and methods and political ecology, with a focus on the relations between race, place, nature, and power.
Prior to beginning my Ph.D., I worked on immigration policy and neighborhood economic development in the Pacific Northwest.
