Michael D. Minta is a Professor in Political Science and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Dr. Minta is a leading expert in the study of the political representation of African American and Latino interests in the United States. He has written and published numerous books and articles on minority representation in the US Congress and by organized interests. His latest book, No Longer Outsiders: Black and Latino Interest Group Advocacy on Capitol Hill (published by the University of Chicago Press in 2021) won the 2023 W.E.B. Du Bois Distinguished Book Award presented by National Conference of Black Political Scientists. Dr. Minta regularly teaches courses in U.S. government pertaining to African American politics, congressional politics, and interest group advocacy. Prior to entering the academic profession, Dr. Minta worked as a policy analyst and researcher for the Texas state legislature and attorney general.
