2023-2024 American Studies Incoming Ph.D. Cohort
The Department of American Studies is pleased to announce our 2023-2024 American Studies Graduate Ph.D. Cohort.
Gabi Dominguez-Salas received her Bachelor's degree in Global Studies from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she also double majored in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Gabi’s research interests lie in Latine identity formation, specifically analyzing the lived experiences of South American immigrants in the U.S.
Stephanie M. Gandy (she/her) is a Black and Irish artist, activist, and educator hailing from California and South Dakota, yet calling the Twin Cities home for over 20 years. Her research interests are guided by the intersections of American Blackness, artistic expression, social justice, and histories of racial qualifying in the United States.
Maria Higueros-Canny identifies as Guatemalan American and uses she/her pronouns. Maria completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota with a double major in Spanish/Portuguese and Global Studies. While in graduate school at the University of Minnesota, Maria plans to examine post-1965 immigration from Central America to Minnesota.
Germaine Lindsay Saladino Juan is an Ilokana immigrant settled in the ahupuaʻa of Kalihi in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. She graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with dual bachelor degrees in Ethnic Studies and Philippine Language & Culture (Ilokano) and a minor in Computer Science. Germaine’s research interests lie in identity formations, cultural production, and social movements of Filipinos in Hawaiʻi.
David Abraham Ramos is a social justice-oriented scholar and aspiring author. He was raised in South Los Angeles by Mexican parents from Guadalajara, Jalisco. His research interests include Immigrant Rights Activism; Reproductive Justice; Critical Race Theory; Critical Counter Narratives, Critical Socio-Historical Archival Analysis, and Neocolonialism.
