You Make Us Great

With your support, the Asian American Studies Program will continue to provide ground-breaking research and creative work; ties to local, national, and international communities; and a curriculum that reflects the experiences and needs of our increasingly diverse student body.

Consider making a donation to support our growing Asian American Studies Program. Your tax-deductible gift will make a direct and immediate impact on our ability to support cultural programming and events, build community outreach, establish student scholarships, and develop faculty research.

What Your Gift Can Do

Your contribution allows us to ensure:

  • A distinguished faculty: creating endowed chairs and professorships and supporting interdisciplinary research centers and programs will help us recruit and retain outstanding faculty.
  • Excellence and competitiveness of our graduate program: faculty choose institutions that attract the best graduate students. We need to ensure the excellence and competitiveness of our graduate programs so that we may compete for the best faculty and brightest students.
  • A diverse and engaged undergraduate student body: although we are attracting better students than ever before, too many other outstanding students choose different institutions—often for financial reasons. Merit and need-based scholarships are needed to recruit many outstanding students.

Choose a Fund

There are a number of ways your gift can help support graduate and undergraduate students—the next generation of leaders and thinkers—in the Asian American Studies Program.

Carolyn Nayematsu Award

The Carolyn Nayematsu Award in Asian American Studies honors Carolyn Nayematsu, whose mentorship has helped transform the University of Minnesota and has left a legacy of leadership in higher education. The award acknowledges exceptional undergraduate and graduate student leadership, community engagement, and scholarship related to Asian American studies. It recognizes those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, made significant contributions to community service and advocacy, or distinguished themselves as new scholars in the interdisciplinary field of Asian American studies.

Your gift to this fund would make a significant difference in the lives of our students, whether it is by helping to fund their tuition or supporting their ability to conduct and present their research at scholarly gatherings. We deeply appreciate your commitment to future Asian American studies students and scholars.
