Conferences

In addition to workshops and colloquia, the Center for Premodern Studies (CPS) sponsors and co-sponsors a number of conferences and symposia each year on the University of Minnesota campus. Early modern history conferences have been a tradition of the CPS since its founding, and we have hosted events on all regions of the globe during the early modern period. Past conferences organized by the CPS include The Rise of Merchant Empires; Implicit Ethnographies; City Walls; State Religion and Folk Belief; Conversions to Christianity; Imperial Identities; Shakespeare and the World; and The Social History of the Sea.

We are also fortunate to have a publications program at CPS which disseminates the findings of these events. CPS conferences have inspired volumes in both the Studies in Comparative Early Modern History and Minnesota Studies in Early Modern History series.
