Drawing from pedagogical research and empirical studies of students and teachers, this talk will highlight the affordances and constraints of using critical pedagogies and multi-modaltexts to realize the two main goals of post-secondary language departments:promoting students' linguistic proficiency and honing their textual analysis skills.

Kate Paesani is an Associate Professor of French and Director of the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA), Her latest co-authored book Literacies in Language Education was published by Georgetown University Press in 2023.
