IHRC Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship
The Immigration History Research Center can serve as a host center for the University of Minnesota’s Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship. The IDF provides funding for mid-career Ph.D. students who are engaged in interdisciplinary research to study with faculty at one of the University’s interdisciplinary research centers or institutes during the fellowship year.
Host Center
The IHRC organizes and co-sponsors many events each year exploring migration, including hosting visiting scholars for public lectures, organizing online and in-person panels on critical issues, and facilitating discussions of works-in-progress. An ID Fellow at the IHRC could engage with research from globally recognized scholars who are analyzing migration with different tools and from different perspectives. The IHRC is committed to creating space for graduate students who study migration from various angles and within various disciplines to come together in a network of mutual support. We regularly host social gatherings, professional development workshops, and research talks by and for graduate students. An ID Fellow would have the opportunity to present or workshop their research in this rich interdisciplinary environment. The IHRC would also contribute $2,500 to ID Fellows’ research, conference travel, or other professional development expenses.
Faculty Mentor
In addition to the IHRC’s faculty director and assistant director, the IHRC has a core group of affiliated faculty from several different departments who serve on our Advisory Council. IDF applicants should contact prospective faculty mentors directly to assess their interest in serving in this role.
Application
To request that the IHRC serve as a host center for your IDF application, please email drafts of all IDF application materials to [email protected] at least three weeks before the IDF application deadline. Be sure to include the name of the faculty mentor you have contacted (or plan to contact) to serve as your faculty mentor if IHRC agrees to support your application.
