Languages
The Language Center supports all the languages taught at the University of Minnesota and beyond. Most locally-taught language courses are offered through academic departments. The center also offers a selection of credit courses to more fully meet the needs of all students, and to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to explore the culture, and develop proficiency in the language of their heritage or choice.
Vietnamese is the official language of Vietnam, and is spoken by over 85 million people. We offer two pathways to meet the needs of students, including a local sequence.
CourseShare allows students to enroll in less commonly taught languages available in the Big Ten, and receive University of Minnesota credit for them.
Facilitated Interdependent Language Learning (FILL) gives University of Minnesota students the opportunity to study a language or language level that is not otherwise available to them, including languages like Amharic and Karen.
