The CALICO (Computer-Assisted Language Instruction Consortium) conference will be hosted by the Language Center with participation from CARLA (Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition) at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities this spring. CALICO is an international organization dedicated to research and development in the use of computer technology in language learning. CALICO Executive Board members Dr. Adolfo Carrillo Cabello (University of Minnesota) and Dr. Frederik Cornillie (Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium) will serve as conference co-chairs.

Although the conference will be face-to-face, there will be online sessions scheduled at times convenient for attendees around the world.

40 years of CALICO: Toward open, sustainable, and multimodal computer-assisted language learning (CALL)

CALICO invites proposals that address key learnings from 40 years of research and development. In particular, participants are invited to address questions and issues connected to the themes of opennesssustainability and multimodality. Proposals on other topics are also welcome!

UMN language educators are especially encouraged to submit a proposal. Proposals are accepted for the following session types:

  • Poster Presentation
  • 30-Minute Presentation (research and/or praxis)
  • Panel Discussion Technology Showcase
  • Workshop (half, full, or two-day)

The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday, October 28, 2022
