Preparing for Fall 2020: Streaming and Digitization

Planning on assigning films for your Fall 2020 classes? The UMN Libraries and the Language Center are ready to help you prepare this summer!

We recommend starting with a visit to the Libraries guide for licensed and cost free options or searching the online catalog. You may find the film you’re looking for or make a new discovery. Choosing licensed online content (e.g. Kanopy), available through these collections, is the best option for assigning film screenings while respecting Fair Use principles. Please note that the Libraries can not guarantee long-term access to films and other restrictions apply.

Don’t see what you’re looking for, and either the Language Center or your department has a DVD copy? The Language Center is pleased to announce that beginning in July, we will resume digitizing films for LC Elevator! You can submit your requests now, and we will begin digitizing soon. We have a new process in place for submitting content while Jones Hall remains closed.

The building is currently locked, but accessible with your UCard. More information on the drop off procedure will be provided when you submit your digitization request.

Please review the Libraries Fair Use resources, and use its Fair Use tool before you decide to request a new film to be digitized or assign a digitized film to students.
