TandemPlus Language and Culture Exchanges

Over the summer and coming this fall: exciting developments in German, Japanese, and Spanish TandemPlus exchanges!

  • May 2020: When the new learning abroad course, German 3551 Sustainability in Germany, suddenly turned into an online course, instructor Beth Kautz arranged for Minnesota students to converse with four different partners in Germany over a two-week period. It was the highlight of the course!
  • June 2020: Japanese instructor Ayumi Mita planned a weekly exchange with Tsuda University in Japan for students in her intermediate-level intensive summer course.  Ayumi developed a rubric based on the ACTFL Interpersonal Task to provide feedback to students after each exchange.
  • September 2020: students in all sections of Spanish 3015 will have nine online conversations with native speakers. Spanish 3015 coordinator Michael Arnold is working with the Conversifi platform to meet the demands of scheduling conversations for 250 Spanish learners at the university
