University of Minnesota Languages Reach Beyond the Twin Cities

The University of Minnesota language instructors continue to share their expertise to students beyond the Twin Cities campus through Big Ten CourseShare and an intrasystem exchange with Morris. Their generosity in sharing their expertise with a wider audience is what makes CourseShare possible, which allows University of Minnesota students to access languages that we do not offer locally, like Catalan, Thai and Yoruba.

A big thank you to the following instructors for sharing their courses Spring 2022. Please note that other instructors include non-local students in their classes outside of formal exchange programs, but a list of unofficial exchanges is not available.

  • Hussnain Ahmed: Beginning Hindi & Urdu, Advanced Urdu
  • Meraj Ahmed: Beginning Hindi & Urdu, Advanced Urdu
  • Zoe Brown: Beginning Ojibwe
  • Šišóka Dúta: Beginning & Intermediate Dakota
  • Dan Haataja: Beginning and Advanced Finnish
  • Kyle Korynta: Beginning Norwegian
  • Neil McKay: Advanced Dakota
  • Renana Schneller: Beginning and Intermediate Modern Hebrew

Instructors who are interested in potentially sharing a class next academic year can email Stephanie Treat at treat002@umn.edu to start a discussion. If you are an instructor who has tried to share a language in the past and did not find a sustainable partner, we can always try again. A successful connection requires the right language for the right student at the right time. Often the “right time” is the missing factor, but persistence can pay off. Some of our most successful partnerships have taken years to develop.
