CLA Online Teaching Program

Applications are now being accepted for the summer CLA Online Teaching Program.

Cap: 10 participants
Duration: six weeks, 8-10 hours per week
Stipend: $2,500 (can be taken as personal income or professional development funds)
Open to: any CLA teaching staff who will teach a fully online course in Fall 2019 or Spring 2020
Dates: June 10 – July 20, 2019

The CLA Online Teaching Program gives you everything you need to teach an exemplary fully online course. You’ll learn:

  • How to cultivate an online environment that is conducive to student motivation
  • Online pedagogies: what’s new and what’s possible
  • The landscape of academic technology at the university
  • Reflection and application of learning science for online teaching
  • How to set up and maintain a Canvas site that’s optimized for online teaching

You’ll also have access to three instructional design consultations to be a partner to you as you think about how to transform your course to online. By the end of the program you’ll have a fully fleshed out online syllabus and at least one module (lesson) and one Career Readiness-enhanced assignment. From there, you’ll be able to design the rest of your course, and you’ll have the support of your cohort during the first round of teaching.

To apply: submit your application  by April 1, 2019.

Preference will be given to applications where the course:

  • Solves a strategic need in CLA (such as meeting an LE or 1-credit course); your department (such as a gap in sequence where students typically take a course outside your unit in order to fill a requirement); a Roadmap goal (such as increasing flexibility for students or opening possibilities for increased community engagement); or a personal need (such as allowing you to complete off-campus research while continuing to teach).
  • Is slated to be taught more than twice within the next 5 years.
