Preparing for Fall 2020 

Instructors: Feeling overwhelmed about getting ready for the coming academic year? Here are some of the ways Language Center can help you prepare for your Fall 2020 classes:

• One-on-One Oral Exams: The Language Testing Program currently offers two online options for the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), which is part of the Language Proficiency Exam (LPE): a Zoom-based live interview and a Canvas-based recorded Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview (SOPI). If you are thinking about how to administer your OPIs this Fall, the Testing Program will be happy to talk to you about options. Please email langtest@umn.edu to get started.
• Class-to-Class TandemPlus Exchanges: Now that students are accustomed to conversing with their classmates in the target language online, why not organize conversations for them with native speakers around the world? Contact Beth Kautz at tandem@umn.edu to discuss finding a partner class or teacher and how to build several conversations into your online course!
• Free Headsets for Language Instructors: The Language Center is offering a limited number of USB microphone headsets to language and culture instructors to help them teach their Fall 2020 courses remotely. If you will need a headset, please help us with our planning by filling out this short form. 
• LC Elevator Film Digitization: Need a film digitized to share online? Digitization requests are now accepted. Currently instructors can drop off films in Jones Hall, and we plan to have a simpler drop off option available soon. Stay tuned!
