Beyond Focus on Form: Developing interactive listening and reading tasks

Tuesday, October 22, 2019
1:25 – 2:30 pm
Wednesday, October 23, 2019
12:20 – 1:10 pm
Jones 35 and via Zoom

Early approaches to language learning proposed attention to form during listening and reading comprehension tasks. However, newer approaches suggest a focus on critical thinking and interpretation. Come and learn about two technology tools that allow for the inclusion of interactive comprehension checks in videos and online readings. Presenters will provide access to two sample tasks in Interactive Video Quiz and ActivelyLearn. Participants will experience sample tasks as students, and will learn about the process for creating tasks for online delivery. The two technologies will be demonstrated at both sessions, but the focus on development will vary. Listening tasks will be the focus on Tuesday and reading tasks on Wednesday.

These sessions will be streamed live via Zoom. Register in advance to participate via Zoom

Presenters: Adolfo Carrillo Cabello &  Dan Soneson, Language Center
