School of Music Collage Concert

The annual School of Music Collage Concert features more than 300 students and faculty in a non-stop concert showcase of all that the School of Music has to offer— including performances by choral, orchestral, bands, jazz, and chamber as well as solo performances.
This year, the timing of our annual Collage concert aligns with two important events: the culmination of CLA's Dream Initiative, celebrating 60 years since the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom and the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, which—in addition to other important things—enshrined the right to nondiscriminatory access to the ballot.
In recognizing these milestones, we are using the concert to demonstrate the role music plays in civic participation, whether that is marching, advocating for change, or voting. From reggae's call for freedom to gospel's cry for equality to Omar Thomas's demand that we Lift Every Voice and Sing, this concert will show how music can play a vital role in building the communities of change we need. We are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Kendra Wheeler (BM '16, MM'18) as host for this year's Collage Concert. and Dr. Amelious N. Whyte, Jr. as narrator. Also joining us will be representatives from the City of Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services and Row the Boat helping to register voters before and after the concert in the lobby of Ted Mann Concert Hall.We are pleased to partner with the Department of Theatre Arts & Dance on additional elements in this year’s concert!
This School of Music event is free and open to the public.
