Alumna Maria Mannone Presents at WiMIR Event

Maria Mannone (PhD 2017, composition, student of Alex Lubet) presented a poster via Skype at the Women in Music Information Retrieval (WiMIR) session (September 28, 2018) during the ISMIR conference, held in Paris. The poster, titled “Mathematical theory of musical gestures, gestural similarity, and psychology: a first validating experiment,” presented results of research developed in collaboration with researchers from the U.S. and Greece. In October 2018, she gave talks in the UK (the Open University of Milton Keynes, Queen Mary University of London, and Greenwich University) about her recent research, involving music from nature obtained via mathematical analysis. At Greenwich University she also ran a workshop for students engaging them in creative activity joining mathematics, music, and visual arts.
