Graduating Senior Spotlight: Q&A with Nola Winje

What is your favorite college memory?

My favorite college memory was my first football game day on the sidelines of the field with the University of Minnesota Dance Team. Also, winning a double national championship this 2023 season at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) college national competition.

Did you participate in any student organizations, Learning Abroad programs, research or internship opportunities, or other related experiences? How have you learned from them?

While being a student athlete at the University of Minnesota, I have thrived in finding the best ways to manage my time. I have made the best friendships, become more disciplined, and experienced leadership throughout my four years on the number one dance team in the nation. I have had the privilege to dance alongside the most talented dancers and genuine people. 

What is your favorite class that you took in CLA? Is there a professor that you particularly enjoyed working with? How did they prepare you for the next phase of your life?

JOUR 3253 - Account Planning with Mark Jenson in the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I didn't know what I was missing until I got to my class with Professor Jenson. Anyone who knows him knows that he is the most genuine professor and truly cares about the success of his students. He best prepared me for the next phase of life by posting daily job and internship updates and showing what was new in the advertising industry every day. He also made me even more interested in a career in advertising.   

How would you describe your time in your major?

The best. But I wish I knew what I wanted to do earlier (or not partially on Zoom).

What have you learned about yourself during your time in CLA?

During my time in CLA I have learned how much I am capable of and how far I can excel when I really love what I'm doing. 

If you could go back and give your first-year self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Join Ad Club and make a LinkedIn profile ASAP.

What is your favorite study spot on campus?

The Graduate Hotel Starbucks or the Graduate lobby.
