Milestone dates & decisions

2017-18

  • Governor Dayton signed the 2018 capital projects bill passed by Minnesota legislators, thereby securing $24 million for the renovation of Pillsbury Hall
  • Project Executive Committee, Project Advisory Committee, and Project Steering Committee are appointed to oversee the project
  • JE Dunn Construction is selected as the construction manager; JE Dunn previously completed renovations of Northrop and the Minnesota State Capitol
  • Architecture Advantage (formerly Rafferty Rafferty Tollefson Lindeke Architects) continues as the architect of record for the project, and their Boston-based partner, Goody Clancy, will provide historic preservation-related experience on buildings similar to Pillsbury Hall

2018-19

FALL September 2018 - December 2018

  • Schematic design development
  • Consultation with Minnesota State Historic Preservation Board
  • Public Art Committee formed; consultation with English faculty, staff, and students begins to frame questions and themes the public art should address
  • Fundraising feasibility study is conducted as the College seeks $12 million in new gifts to meet our financial goal

SPRING January 2019 - May 2019

  • Board of Regents approve schematic design
  • Final design development begins
  • Abatement begins
  • Fundraising drive for Pillsbury Hall launches

SUMMER June 2019 - August 2019

  • University review and approval of final design
  • Preparation of construction documents begins

2019-20

FALL September 2019 - December 2019

  • University review and approval of construction documents
  • Construction begins

SPRING January 2020 - May 2020

  • Construction continues
  • Time-lapse cameras are installed to view progress

SUMMER June 2020 - August 2020

  • Construction continues

2020-21

FALL September 2020 - December 2020

  • Construction continues

SPRING January 2021 - May 2021

  • Construction continues

SUMMER June 2021 - August 2021

  • Project is complete
  • The Department of English and the Creative Writing Program move into the building
  • Grand re-opening celebration is held on September 17.
