We will have warm-up activities and writing prompts to facilitate writing. And, during each lunch, we will have faculty-led discussion on a particular writing topic and/or challenge.

Retreat Expectations

  • Attend the retreat for the entire week
  • Avoid the internet or email during the hours of the retreat
  • Acutely focus on writing your dissertations with sustained writing time
  • Actively participate in writing warm-ups and facilitations
For questions, please email ridgs@umn.edu.
Note: The Writing Center offers an excellent Dissertation Writing Retreat in May Term. RIDGS encourages all students to apply to that more extensive program, which is an intensive three-week retreat with expert writing support. Although they can only accept a limited number of participants, it is a wonderful model, and this RIDGS writing retreat has been inspired by that successful paradigm.
