Zebadiah Demorest

Zebadiah (Zeb) Demorest is PhD Student in the Department of Writing Studies. He received an MA in English Studies from East Carolina University. His research typically focuses on social media rhetorics with a specific interest in TikTok—and it's algorithm—as rhetorical subjects. Through his MA coursework, he completed projects on "algospeak" in mental health/self-harm communities on TikTok, a new materialist project tracking the rhetorical movements of the "God Bless the USA" Bible across social media spaces, and cultural rhetorics projects in Black Feminist and Indigenous rhetorics. Zeb is also interested in trauma-informed writing pedagogy, creative nonfiction and fiction writing, and hip-hop rhetorics.
