History

I am training as a historian of women's lives and the law in the United States across the 19th and 20th centuries. My dissertation charts the regulation of women's bodies under the Minnesota State Constitution, with special attention to how our state came to be one of the most protective of the right to abortion in the country while neighboring states in the midwest took a different path. I am interested in how the law hardens socially constructed identities into the material realities that shape our lives, and think of the law in its full social historical context to ask what factors beyond the courtroom contribute to its change over time.
