2024 Department of Art Accolades

As another year draws to a close, we honor faculty, fellows, and staff who have gone above and beyond in 2023/24.

The Department of Art is pleased to present awards of distinction to the following individuals for going above and beyond in their service to our students and our department this year!

Tetsuya Yamada: 2024 Fred Joel Larson Excellence in Teaching Award

This award, first given in 2023, was made possible by a generous gift from David and Leni Moore in honor of a beloved former art student and artist, Fred Joel Larson.

Professor Tetsuya Yamada was nominated by 11 students for the Arthur “Red” Motely - CLA Award for Exemplary Teaching Award this year. The letters written by undergraduate and graduate students demonstrated that Professor Yamada exemplifies a passionate educator who is dedicated to  teaching while deeply committed to his own artistic practice and exploration. Professor Yamada’s teaching and his work as a leading contemporary artist are intertwined, and his career provides a model as both a successful artist and a highly impactful teacher. Professor Yamada recently received the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship and has a one-person exhibition at the Walker Art Center.
