Across the Globe Inspires

"On my recent trip I learned that you can find beauty in everyday life. With that being said, I plan to keep my camera by my side and not miss out on capturing the beauty of what I see as ordinary."

For all of us, Spring Semester at the U has not gone totally to plan, including students engaged in Study Abroad programming. UMN Department of Art student Angie Borowski found her trip to Thailand cut short and an internship that never fully realized, but still found artistic inspiration. A photographer, Angie carried her camera with her constantly, whether in bustling cities or in the rural Thai countryside living with a family. Her images depict her travels and explorations of culture and nature. Angie learned the artistry of organically dyed cotton and weaving, keeping elephants healthy and happy in a sanctuary, and the challenges of city life with limited infrastructure.

Now back in the United States, living in Spring Semester's new reality, Angie reflects that despite leaving Thailand sooner than planned, the point of view of finding beauty in everyday life is a journey all on its own.
