Center for Austrian Studies Establishes Subvention Fund and Call for Donations

Once established, the award will aid pre-tenure and non-tenured scholars publishing book-length monographs

Since its founding in 1977, the Center for Austrian Studies has supported scholars who critically investigate the past, examine the present, and consider the future of Central Europe.

To acknowledge these vital contributions, the Center awards various prizes, including our dissertation, article, and book prizes. As the landscape of higher education continues to change, and uncertainty faces many of our respective fields, the Center is embarking on an additional fundraising effort that will help support junior scholars for years to come.

The Center has established a publishing subvention prize fund for pre-tenure and non-tenured scholars. As scholars must often provide publishers additional funds to see their books appear in print, and the footprint of Central European Studies continues to shrink in North America, offering financial assistance becomes a vital task. Because published monographs remain a regular requirement for tenure, the time is now to establish this fund.

For pre-tenure and non-tenured scholars, details regarding the competition will be forthcoming and available by the summer of 2024.

If you are interested in being one of the prize’s founding donors, you can either contribute to the fund electronically, or send a check (payable to University of Minnesota Foundation) to:
