The scholarship supported by the Center for Austrian Studies through its yearbook and monograph series has pushed and challenged traditional academic boundaries in several critical ways. Chronologically, we cover themes stretching from the Middle Ages to the present day, and examine a broad scope of subjects—from medieval monastic reform to ethnic cleansing in the Balkans. The center has sponsored scholars whose origins span a wide area—from the Baltic and the North Seas to the Adriatic and Black Seas. Our authors have also highlighted the linguistic and cultural complexity of Central Europe. Their work has frequently straddled the borders of the German, Slavic, Magyar, and Italian worlds in their efforts to understand and analyze the vibrant and cosmopolitan cultures of Central Europe.
