Majors Receive President's Awards

Recognized for leadership and service
English major Megan Filzen, U President Eric Kaler, and major Holly St. Clair

Congratulations to English majors Megan Filzen and Holly St. Clair, who have won 2019 President's Leadership and Service Awards! (Above, with outgoing U President Eric Kaler.)

Filzen is the Co-Director of University of Minnesota Camp Kesem, which provides free camp experiences and year-round support to nearly 200 children who have a parent with cancer; she started out there as a camp counselor, last year became Outreach Coordinator and board member, and this year is coordinating 80 volunteers, as well as fundraising and managing programming. Filzen is writing her honors thesis (advised by Professor Katherine Scheil) on the importance of reading during a health crisis.

St. Clair serves on both the U's Student Unions and Activities (SUA) Board of Governors and the University Recreation and Wellness Advisory Board; she is Co-Chief of Staff for the Minnesota Student Association. A founder of the U's Club Squash team, she is currently team captain. St. Clair also has volunteered for community organizations through Lecturer Eric Daigre's English service learning courses.

It was an honor to nominate these English students, who make us #UMNProud.
