Why did you choose to major in English?
I've always been a creator. I always found myself writing stories, reading creative work, and editing my family members' and friends' papers. Reading and writing are things I cherish and are strengths of mine. I even taught English to a few people, and I enjoyed it. So, I finally realized--that's what I want to do!

What has been your favorite part of your experience in the department?
I am able to express myself freely and create something that is my own unique work. I've also met English professors who are really passionate about their work.
Are you pursuing any majors, minors, internships, or fields of interest outside your English major?
I have a human services degree, because I'm interested in helping people. No matter what I pursue in English, I will always have a holistic view when it comes to working with others and putting work out there. It's beneficial to have a skill one is good at and at the same time, have a kind and open-minded heart as a person, which I think enhances my study of English.
What is something about the English department that most people wouldn’t know?
The people that work behind the scenes in the English department are super nice. (I work as a Student Administrative Office Assistant for English.) If you need assistance, please don't hesitate! The staff are really supportive. They're one of the biggest factors keeping the English department running smoothly, and I think they deserve more recognition.
Another thing: the English department offers courses that will definitely make you think deeper. You may have to rewrite over and over again--but that doesn't necessarily mean you're bad at what you do. You're exploring ways a paper can be read and written, including interpreted. English courses will definitely help you enhance your writing, analyzing, and close-reading skills.
Best book you've read/seen recently?
I'm a visual learner, and I love art, so I've been interested in webtoons lately. The best webtoon I've read so far is definitely My Boo written by Jeongseo (on the publishing portal Line Webtoon). Those who want to try something new should definitely read it.
