Competitive Fellowships and Scholarships
Many fellowships and awards have minimum GPA and other requirements, but you do not need to be enrolled in the Honors Program to qualify for many of these scholarships and fellowships:

- Competitive immersion programs and summer internships
Geography majors transferring from a community college may apply for the Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship.
Department of Geography, Environment & Society Awards
The geography department makes awards each spring to undergraduate geographers. They are presented during the Brown Day dinner program.
- The John S. Adams Award for Majors in Geography
- An award of $1125 in honor of Professor Emeritus John S. Adams. Students must be declared Geography BA or BS majors at the time of application. We encourage students from all backgrounds and with any interests to apply, but a minimum of 3.0 GPA is preferred.

- Outstanding Graduating Senior Award for
- Cash awards of $100-$200 to the outstanding graduating senior in geography and BSE, who will have been graduated from the previous fall through the coming summer. Students must ask an instructor or research supervisor to nominate them for this award and notify the GES Advising Office they are applying for this award ([email protected]).
- Outstanding Senior Project Award for
- Cash awards of $100-$200 for the best senior paper or project submitted since the last Brown Day competition. This is awarded on a calendar year basis. Students must ask their thesis supervisor to nominate them for this award and notify the GES Advising Office they are applying for this award ([email protected])
- National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) Excellence in Scholarship Award
- This award recognizes our nominee to the NCGE for an outstanding geography scholar and includes a certificate from the NCGE. If you believe you meet the eligibility criteria, please contact the GES advisor or a faculty member.
- Marble-Boyle Undergraduate Achievement Award in Geographic Science
- Excellent students who are completing a GIS-focused Geography BA or BS are encouraged to apply for the Marble-Boyle Undergraduate Achievement Award in Geographic Science.
College of Liberal Arts Scholarships
The College of Liberal Arts offers scholarships for continuing students currently enrolled in CLA. Each year, academically talented CLA students receive scholarships based on need or merit.
