Lu Johnston is a PhD student in the Department of History at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, where their research focuses on social conceptions of and reactions to physical and sensory disabilities in western and central Europe during the late Middle Ages. Their current work explores the relationship between the body, begging, and (manual) labor in post-Black-Death labor legislation and its enforcement, looking comparatively at England and Germany
