Center for Premodern Studies
The Center for Premodern Studies (CPS) advocates for the value of long historical perspectives on human experience, including pressing social and environmental concerns. We support innovative research in early modernity, and the medieval and ancient worlds, while promoting transformative understandings across time, space, and methods. Our members hail from departments across the University of Minnesota and the greater Twin Cities communities of scholars, curators, artists, and artisans. Our workshops and lectures are open to all students and faculty, and many are also open to the public. We offer graduate minors in Early Modern Studies and Medieval Studies, an undergraduate minor in Medieval Studies, and we are a host Center for the University’s Interdisciplinary Dissertation Fellowship. We also promote collaborations with external institutions such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Newberry Library.
