The Department of Economics celebrated its 2024 graduates with a combined ceremony honoring both baccalaureate graduates and doctoral graduates.  It was held in Willey Auditorium on Friday May 10th  and was followed by a reception.  There was great turnout by graduating students, their families and friends, faculty and staff. And even Goldy Gopher made an appearance!

Representing the undergraduates, Ella Curiel and Sara Schuster both delivered valedictorian speeches, and Ricardo Alves Monteiro spoke on behalf of the finishing doctoral students.

A combined grad/undergrad event is new this year and when asked about it, Department Chair Tom Holmes had this to say: “In planning this new event, we viewed it as really important that it include both undergrad and PhD students.  The training is at different levels, but all are Minnesota Economics together.  We thank our staff for the creative way they got this new event off the ground and for the input we received from students.  We are thrilled with the event’s success and expect it to be a new tradition for the years to come.”

Special thanks to the Undergraduate Economics Student Board for help with the planning and for the photo booth that added to the fun at the reception.
