Patricia Hampl's "University Farewell"

Regents Professor Patricia Hampl gave a "University Farewell" reading on November 29, 2018, at the Weisman Art Museum, as she retires from 37 years of teaching at the University of Minnesota. She was accompanied by pianist Dan Chouinard. The above clip focuses on the St. Paul native's early years as an undergraduate English major at the U.

Hampl went on to become a pioneering memoirist, a two-time Minnesota Book Award winner, a MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellow, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In addition, she received multiple teaching awards, including the University's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Postbaccalaureate, Graduate, and Professional Education. Her books include The Florist's Daughter, A Romantic Education, I Could Tell You Stories, and her latest, The Art of the Wasted Day.
