Staging Memory: An Afternoon with Robert Lepage
In April, the Department of French and Italian was delighted to welcome acclaimed director, actor, and playwright Robert Lepage to campus for an interview and discussion about his current play, 887, his other works, and his career. Lepage’s groundbreaking approach to theater and his integration of technology have won him international acclaim. With A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he became the first North American to direct a Shakespeare play at the Royal National Theatre in London, and in 1994, he founded multidisciplinary theater production company Ex Machina. His current production, the largely autobiographical one-man show 887, centers on his childhood home in Québec City and explores themes of identity and memory.
