On behalf of the Department of German, Nordic, Slavic & Dutch, it is our great pleasure to announce Angela Belous as the selected winner of the GNSD Capstone prize. The prize selection committee was incredibly impressed with Angela's paper, "Addressing Barriers to Health in Minnesota's Refugees."

Angela Belous is a recent University of Minnesota graduate with a Russian BA and a public health minor. Her capstone topic reflects her love for medicine, public health, and her heritage. Growing up with a Ukrainian mother, Angela was no stranger to translating in hospitals and just how hard it is to receive medical care as an immigrant. Her favorite part about writing her capstone paper was how amazing her peers were with working together to edit, brainstorm, and motivate each other. After graduating Angela plans on taking a gap year to work as a health technician in correctional medicine, before attending PA school. She hopes as a physician assistant to continue to serve underserved and Russian-speaking populations.

Congratulations Angela!
