Study Abroad

GWSS encourages students to think globally and to bridge feminist scholarship with feminist action—we want to see our students transform the world! For many of our majors and minors, traveling and learning abroad is a life-changing experience that allows students to apply and engage gender, women, and sexuality studies internationally.

GWSS students have worked in women’s health clinics in Ecuador, lived and studied in Mexico to increase their language skills, and harvested oysters among a women-led collective in Dakar, Senegal. Imagine the possibilities as you develop your skills, leadership, and global awareness!

Ready to Get Started?

  1. Check out the Learning Abroad Center’s list of GWSS-aligned programs and opportunities for travel.
  2. Attend a First-Step meeting with the Learning Abroad Center. Email [email protected] or stop by Heller Hall for more information.
  3. Schedule an appointment with both your major/minor and college advisor before you depart and upon on your return to have courses approved for credit. Pre-study abroad planning does not automatically mean that courses abroad will be approved.
    • After your time abroad, bring back any relevant syllabi and major work assignments you may have completed as part of the program. These will be reviewed as part of your post-study abroad meeting.
For further information on study abroad, please contact the Learning Abroad Center or make an appointment with our GWSS advisor.
