Summer at the Language Center – Services and Programs for Students

While Jones Hall remains closed for now, instructors and students can always reach the Language Center staff at elsie@umn.edu. The following Language Center services and programs for students will remain open through the summer.

• TandemPlus: To help bridge the social distance, TandemPlus partnerships started in the spring will continue through summer. Students can register for matching anytime, and the program is strongly recommended for students enrolled in summer language courses. The summer program features virtual events open to all students, and guidance on maintaining a remote partnership. New students can sign up at Tandemplus.umn.edu.
• Language Testing: All tests are now available online with remote proctoring. Testing staff will administer the Entrance Placement Tests (EPT), Language Proficiency Exam (LPE) and Individualized Language Assessment (ILA) throughout the summer for students requiring placement, certification or degree completion. Students can register for the tests they need at langtest.umn.edu and keep up with the state of Testing at the Testing Updates page.
• LC Elevator: Authentic foreign-language video and audio, as well as instructional materials are available to stream online at LC.Elevator.umn.edu. Some items include multiple subtitle options, and others include downloadable instructional guides.
• CourseShare: There is only one received CourseShare course running over summer, but there are many classes open for fall registration, and students can still contact Stephanie Treat at elsie@umn.edu to request a new language.
