Samuel Fletcher awarded NSF CAREER grant
MCPS fellow and board member Samuel C. Fletcher has been awarded a 5-year, $442,998 CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation to develop new conceptual foundations for statistical testing and estimation, as they are used in science and medicine. The grant will also support two educational objectives:
(1) integration of statistical concepts and methods into college philosophy curricula, especially critical reasoning, epistemology, and philosophy of science courses, through faculty summer institutes for college instructors; and
(2) building a network of early-career scholars in the philosophy of statistics through two summer schools for graduate students. The CAREER program is considered to be among the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty.
Fletcher's project begins in September 2021.
