The program is the first of its kind outside of Jamaica seeking to recognize and enhance the study of reggae.

In the class Music Outreach in Healthcare Settings, taught by Professor Michael Silverman, music students play for patients at the University of Minnesota Health Clinics and Surgery Center. These students are learning about the experience their music can create for other people in a non-concert setting.

Professors Scott Currie, Akosua Addo, Paul Shaw, and Michael Kim welcomed to campus world-renowned Jamaican artists and delegates.

Alison Lee (DMA 2018, piano, student of Lydia Artymiw) has joined Ensemble 1828 (with violinist Nicole Oswald and cellist Isaac Pastor-Chermak) for six all Schubert chamber and solo programs coming up in Fremont, San Francisco, Oakland, Cupertino, and Albany, CA.

Pei-Lei Lin (DMA 2015, piano, student of Lydia Artymiw) recently served as a piano juror for the 2019 Chopin International Youth Piano Competition (China group, Shandong Division).

After three years as assistant professor of piano at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City (from 2016-2019), Andrew Staupe (BM 2005/MM 2007, piano, student of Lydia Artymiw) has accepted a new teaching position as assistant professor of piano at the University of Houston, Texas beginning August 2019.

Dean Billmeyer (organ) will perform works of J. S. Bach, César Franck, Jean-Antoine Blanc, and Louis Vierne on the historic Felgemaker organ at the Second Saturdays Organ Recital at Sacred Heart Music Center (201 W. Fourth Street, Duluth) on Saturday, June 8 at 2 pm.

Paula Gudmundson (DMA 2015, flute, student of Immanuel Davis) will perform a recital with pianist Sue Ruby at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, MN on June 12 at 6:30 pm.
