Meet Kylie Smith

Peer Advisor
Kylie Smith, Department of Political Science, University of Minnesota

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Major: Political Science

Minor: Philosophy

Graduation: Planning to graduate in spring 2022.

Kylie is a 4th-year student from Lakeville, Minnesota with passions for education, communications, and mentorship. She considers herself a “renaissance student”, with a love for learning in any subject area. Additionally, Kylie is a student in the University Honors Program and plans to write her senior thesis in political science this academic year.

What experience in politics do you have?

Kylie was an intern at the Minnesota State Senate for the 2021 Senate Session. In addition to working in this role, Kylie registered this experience through the POL 3080 internship course, (which she highly recommends). She worked on a caucus media team where she helped develop social media advertisements, created writing and speaking points for various state senators, and wrote articles for the media team web page. Kylie was also a part of the Political Leaders of Tomorrow 2021 cohort with the organization Women Winning.

What is your favorite resource to use on campus?

Kylie’s favorite resource on campus is Boynton’s PAWS program, because she loves animals and misses her family dog when she’s on campus.

How can students benefit from meeting with you?

Kylie hopes to provide a welcoming environment for students who are looking for help in their academic planning, getting involved in the political science student organizations, or just looking for someone to connect with who has access to resources and can offer support from her perspective as an honors student, a student who has worked internships in political science, and an upperclassman who loves life at UMN.

What conversations do you look forward to having with students as a peer advisor?

Kylie looks forward to hearing about students' future goals and what has drawn them towards political science. She hopes to be a link for students to resources or student groups that can help them make the most of their time in political science and the most of their time at UMN.
