Peer advisor Emma Cliff sitting in front of body of water.

Emma Cliff is a sophomore majoring in political science. Read her Student Spotlight Q&A to learn more about her and her experiences as a political science student.

What is your hometown?

St. Michael, MN.

Why did you choose to major in political science?

I got very interested in politics during high school and I wanted to study political science so that I could have more of a grasp on current political affairs.

What has been your favorite political science course at UMN?

I would say POL 3309 US Supreme Court has been my favorite. I didn't realize how little I actually knew about the supreme court, and Professor Tim Johnson is a great lecturer.

What do you hope to do after graduation? How has studying political science prepared you?

I am planning on graduating early and taking a year off before I pursue law school!

What advice would you give to prospective political science students?

My advice would be to put yourself out there in the department! Go to events, get to know your professors, check out the student groups.

How are you involved on campus?

I am one of the political science peer advisors!
