Alexia Martin (she/they) serves as an Academic Advisor with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program in the College of Liberal Arts. She is a lifelong learner and social advocate dedicated to supporting scholars through a holistic, justice-centered approach.

An East St. Paul native, Alexia is also a direct descendant of the historically Black Rondo neighborhood and the trailblazing city of Selma, Alabama. Additionally, a granddaughter of a grandma who marched with Dr. King. Alexia earned her B.A. in Spanish Education K–12 with a minor in Women’s Studies from St. Catherine University. Afterwards, she lived in Colombia for three years with a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship and Director for a study abroad program focused on race, ethnicity, and identity through an Afro-Colombian/Black lens. There, she served as a bridge between BIPOC U.S. college students and local Afro-Colombian communities, facilitating dialogues around privilege, historical activism, and shared Pan-African cultural ties. Her global background in higher education, youth work, and nonprofits like College Possible, has allowed her to support student autonomy, community leadership and involvement, and development of neuroplasticity.

Also a certified yoga instructor, Alexia is passionate about marginalized folks reclaiming and redownloading cultural healing practices in wellness. In her free time, she enjoys roller skating, mastering new hobbies, and resting in hammocks—embracing joy in creativity and movement.
