Scholarships & Aid

Thanks to generous donors to the College of Liberal Arts, CLA is able to award scholarships for merit, need, and experiences like research, internships, and study abroad.

On This Page:

Each year, the College of Liberal Arts awards more than $3.5 million in collegiate scholarships and grants to CLA undergraduates. Many academic departments within CLA also award scholarships.

CLA Scholarship Processes

The majority of CLA scholarships are awarded on the basis of both merit and need. Students are advised to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the University of Minnesota's code 003969, or the MN Dream Act Application, if they wish to be considered for scholarships with a need-based component.

Instructions for Recipients

Many CLA scholarships are renewable annually as two-, three-, or four-year awards, provided you maintain eligibility for your CLA scholarship.

Emergency Grants

If a student experiences an unexpected emergency situation that creates a financial hardship, limited CLA funds are available as one-time emergency grants.

CLA students can apply for this support directly via One Stop. See detailed information about the process and eligibility requirements on One Stop's student emergency funds webpage.

Specialized Scholarships

CLA students are considered for these awards during multiple cycles throughout the year.
