Janean Sorrell serves as the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for the Department of Economics and Heller-Hurwicz Economics Institute, where she develops strategic communication initiatives to enhance the visibility and impact of the department’s research and academic programs.
Sorrell brings extensive experience in multimedia journalism and digital communication to her role. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication and a Minor in Political Science from California Polytechnic State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, with research distinction. She also earned a Graduate Certificate in Data Computation from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, specializing in digital storytelling and data visualization.
Prior to joining the University, Sorrell worked as a reporter and Managing News Editor. Her journalism work has been recognized with awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association and California News Publishers Association. Her research on media representation has been published in Journalism Practice, and she contributed to the Book “Comedy, Cameos and Campaign Communication: Leveraging Entertainment Media to Win Elections and Advance Policy.”
