What policies and laws affect my data?
Some data are protected under law and are subject to specific security requirements. For example:
- Medical or health care data are protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Student records and grades are protected under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Information produced under some federal grants requires compliance with the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA).
