Before You Apply

Research Our Programs and the Application Process

Learn more about our Certificate and MS programs by exploring the Professional Programs section of this website. In addition, we encourage you to review our Certificate & MS Admissions FAQ and the Graduate School's Prospective Student Toolkit. The Graduate School Diversity Office offers helpful information for prospective students, including admissions and application consultations.

Register for an Information Session

We invite you to attend one of our free, virtual MS/Certificate information sessions! We hold information sessions on Zoom throughout the year. Program faculty and staff will answer your questions about coursework, the application process, career development, and more.

Understand the Program Costs

Review the MS/Certificate program costs, including the tuition rates and fee information. We strongly encourage you to contact One Stop Student Services to learn about differences in financial aid eligibility between the Certificate and MS programs prior to applying.

Familiarize Yourself With Our Programs' Systems

Our courses offer many opportunities for collaboration and leverage Google Workspace to coordinate team projects. Previous students encourage incoming students to be proficient in Google Workspace (e.g., Gmail, Drive, Slides, etc.) prior to their program start. Please contact us with any questions.

Contact Us with Questions!

We strive for transparency in our program requirements and admissions process. If you have questions about our programs or how to apply, please email [email protected].

Application Review Criteria

In reflection of our commitment to an equitable and inclusive admissions process, we neither require nor consider GRE scores. Additionally, there is no minimum required GPA. Instead, your application materials are considered holistically. Key considerations during application review include:

  • alignment between your expressed interests and focus of the program;
  • demonstrated understanding of the field of technical communication; and
  • preparedness for success in graduate-level study.

Application Review and Timeline

All application materials must be submitted electronically through the online admissions system by the stated application deadline. Program faculty and staff will review applications after the deadline for the selected admission term. We do our best to send admissions decisions approximately two to three weeks after the application deadline.
