The Science Essay: Writing About Science When Maybe You’re Not a Scientist

On November 21st, Capper Nichols spoke to the campus student group, Scientific Research Communication (SRC). The title of the presentation was “The Science Essay,” the subtitle, “Writing about science when maybe you’re not a scientist. A talk about literary and journalistic science writing.” Much of the material in the presentation was developed while teaching Writing Studies 3152W: Writing on Issues of Science and Technology.

SRC is based in the College of Biological Sciences. The group, whose “goal is to engage students with current scientific research occurring on our campus,” invite faculty and researchers to biweekly meetings to present their work to the members. The group also puts out Health and Biological Research News, in which students publish summaries and synopses of biological and medical studies.
